 PURPOSE AND MISSION
Community Circle of Care, Inc. is an all-volunteer charity dedicated to increasing community support for local homeless programs that house and feed homeless men, women and children. Community Circle of Care (formerly Cedar River Shelters, Inc.) is a §501(c)(3) non-profit charity organized in December 2001. We seek to carry out our mission in the following ways:
Ø Support a Homeless Center to coordinate intake/referral services and provide assistance to the homeless.
Ø Support local homeless programs and law enforcement that take care of homeless people in the area.
Ø Support future operating funds through a trust fund established at the Community Foundation.
First Goal: Provide a least cost means to raise community support for a centralized point of entry for coordination of intake, assistance & referral services including temporary shelter and meals for homeless individuals and families (referred to as a Homeless Center).
Second Goal: Seek alliances for a Community Circle of Care© to provide long-term support. Partner with other organizations through speakers and projects that raise awareness and increase support for local homeless shelters and programs that house and feed the homeless. Support from the community can be in the form of in-kind contributions and volunteer time as well as donations.
Direct Effect Projects: CCC partners with business, community service, collegiate and religious organizations to provide critical hygiene products and blankets, and to raise funds distributed to programs that provide housing or meals. The following Direct Effect Projects are ongoing:
Ø Website: Provides an information resource for and about the homeless.
Ø Annual Sleep Out for the Homeless: Volunteers collect pledges of support from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for their promise to 'Sleep Out' for the homeless. The event is a partnership with the Linn County Veterans Affairs Office. 100% of the collected proceeds are evenly distributed to local shelters as cash grants to be used for their operational needs.
Ø Blanket Blitz: New Blankets are collected and distributed to homeless programs and shelters at the annual Sleep Out for the homeless.
Ø Network of Faith: Inter-Religious Council members partnered with CCC to provide hygiene, paper & cleaning supplies to five (5) area shelters for a 3-mo. period on a regular basis.
Donation Projects: The Box of Hope© meets the CCC criteria for a donation project - raise maximum operating funds at minimal cost and effort - without interfering with fundraising by programs CCC supports. The 2005 Box of Hope© is designed as elaborate interpretations of the Grant Wood painted house in American Gothic with an invitation to donate and ‘Light Up Hope’ to help the homeless find housing and assistance in Linn County. The boxes will be placed in clubhouses of area golf courses and other area businesses.
Community Circle of Care believes that increased broad-based community support from private citizens is necessary to combat the homeless situation in our community and surrounding areas. By working to attain greater community support, CCC supports the efforts of Linn County’s Continuum of Care, Policy and Planning Council and the HOPE Project Committee (Homeless Outreach Program Efforts).
